You are joining a team of highly skilled engineers focused on enterprise solid state drive design in Western Digital. This position is located in Irvine, CA.
•Experienced, process oriented designer, who has brought multiple designs from requirements through to volume production
•Analog expertise. Thorough understanding of power circuits and the design of low voltage DC power systems.
•Experience designing systems with microprocessors and/or FPGAs and various memory types including DDR4 SDRAM
•Good communication skills are critical. Our teams are spread across the US and the world, so conference call, WebEx, email, IM, and some travel are required.
•Experience with high speed interfaces 10Gb/s and up. Knowledge of high speed PCB design practices. Experience in signal integrity simulation and analysis.
•Proficiency with a schematic capture tool and simulation design tools
•Strong debug skills and proficiency with logic analyzers and digital oscilloscopes
•A good understanding of board layout fundamentals (including stackup, power/ground planes, impedance control)
•Solid understanding of the full production process of PCB and assembly
•Understanding of configuration management, BOM management, and document control
•Proficiency with SPICE modeling and simulation
•BSEE with 15 or more years of related experience
•Proficiency with Cadence Allegro schematic tool
•Proficiency with Hyperlynx SI and PI or equivalent
•Experience with PCIe, SATA, and SAS
•Knowledge of flash memory technology and flash memory controller
Prototype SSD bring up and debug (HW and/or FW)
Analyze and characterize designs via engineering validation testing
Support of new technologies and features - characterization, validation and integration
Population and individual drive level failure analysis and corrective action generation at all stages of product development
Develop, verify, and implement algorithms for the manufacturing test process
Analyze test process and field data for drive design improvements
Customer qualification failure analysis
Manufacturing yield improvements
BS or greater Engineering degree required
12+ years in an engineering product development environment
12+ years of experience in hardware and/or firmware design, validation and failure analysis for microprocessor based products
Experience in a wide range of lab equipment
A highly disciplined approach to problem solving
Ability to work independently and as a team member or leader across multiple projects in a results-driven environment
In-depth knowledge of product development throughout the product life cycle
Data analysis skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience in storage devices or related industry is a benefit
Experience with SAS/SATA/PCIe interface protocols is a benefit
Experience with Microsoft* Office* tool suite is desired
Ability to travel (~15%)
