Job Purpose

 

Strategic and senior HR Business Partner to the Client Solutions business unit at Western Digital.  Serve as the trusted advisor to the head of the business unit and his staff.  Coach and counsel executives in the client group.  Work with internal HR resources to design HR strategies, programs, services, and initiatives to drive and support achievement of business objectives and improve organizational capabilities. Provide strategic consultation to managers on talent management strategies, workforce planning (in conjunction with Staffing), organizational design/alignment, compensation administration, and management effectiveness. Deliver organizational development tools and training. Develop, implement, and enforce human resources policies that ensure compliance with all laws ensuring fair and equitable treatment for employees. Resolve employee relations issues (in partnership with employee relations specialists and Legal) and manage projects as assigned. Exhibit and promote company values. Partner frequently with international HR resources in support of the global group.  Direct the work of junior HR Business Partners frequently.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains direct client responsibility on all aspects of HR and bridges the connection between HR work and business objectives
  • Takes a proactive approach with the business/clients on anticipating needs, suggesting improvements, and driving the success of the organization
  • Leads organizational design/alignment activities with clients
  • Works with business leaders on workforce planning (in partnership with Staffing).
  • Delivers HR related training and takes part in development of employees and managers; guides managers on establishing development plans
  • Applies organizational development tools and principles to identify needs and develop interventions, including team effectiveness sessions
  • Partners with OD on succession planning
  • Management coaching to include executives
  • Coaches managers and employees on performance improvement/corrective action
  • Provides conflict management facilitation
  • Works with clients on employee retention, both proactive and real-time
  • Partners with managers on employee engagement; understands and represents both the employee and management viewpoint to strengthen employee engagement
  • Implements and administers HR programs and services (Annual Compensation Review, Short term and long term incentive planning, performance management process, Talent Review Board process, etc.); ensures staff members are meeting objectives
  • Facilitates change management
  • Accurately explains company policies & procedures and suggests changes as needed
  • Educates managers re: employment law, good management practices, ensures compliance with all laws
  • Assists and educates managers with job scoping process, job descriptions. development of career paths, compensation  and promotion decisions
  • Works with the HR leadership team (and site leaders if applicable) to develop and execute employee communications as needed
  • Provides HR data for business leaders to inform business decisions
  • Participates in process improvement activity within HR and across the organization
  • Initiates projects and initiatives that provide support to business objectives
  • Manages large or cross-functional projects (e.g., acquisitions, company-wide alignment, etc.)
  • Exhibits and promotes company values
  • Actively seeks out self-development – keeps up with employment law, trends; gains  new skills/tools
  • Global responsibilities (staff and clients located in many different countries all with different laws  and practices)  

Education, Certifications, and/or Licenses and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or equivalent experience preferred
  • Years of Experience (General Guidelines): 12 years or more
  • Experience supporting High-tech industries
  • Demonstrated experience supporting global clients and navigating in a global HR workforce
  • SPHR and/or certification in MBTI, DiSC, and other programs preferred
