Western Digital’s Platform Engineering group is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join a growing engineering team working on a line of exciting new storage platforms.  As a key member of the Platform group, you will be responsible for designing and developing software for state-of-the-art fabric storage systems. 
 
You must be a strong team player, have excellent communication skills and should have experience developing highly available distributed systems, with a focus on performance and quality. 
  
Responsibilities include architecture, design and development of storage fabric system software. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will develop networking reference architectures.  The role will also help troubleshoot networking issues, working closely with firmware, performance, research and support teams.  
 
Must demonstrate attention to detail and quality. This senior-level role involves significant responsibility and requires creativity, leadership as well as the passion to build high-performance storage systems. 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop firmware features for storage networking
  • Design and implement firmware unit and component tests
  • Develop networking reference architecture
  • Investigate network monitoring and troubleshooting tools for use by the engineering team
  • Build network prototypes in the lab
  • Analyze requirements and provide solutions to Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks 
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • BSCS, Electrical/Computer Engineering, plus 10+ years of experience  
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.  Understanding of firmware and hardware design principles.
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Networking knowledge in terms of OSI, TCP/IP, and networking technologies
  • Prior experience with configuring Layer 2/Layer 3 switches
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Excellent time management, written, and verbal skills
  • Prior experience with RDMA/RoCE and/or Open Fabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED) is a plus
  • Networking Certification (Cisco or other) is a plus
