The Director, IP Compliance, plays a key role in ensuring that Company and business partner confidential information and trade secrets are properly handled and protected, and that third-party confidential information and trade secrets are not improperly acquired or used by Company employees.  The Director will report to the Associate General Counsel, IP Compliance.



  • Updating and implementing an IP Compliance program for a complex global business

  • Managing IP-related on-boarding and off-boarding processes for employees

  • Training employees regarding IP Compliance topics

  • Conducting compliance monitoring, auditing, and risk assessments

  • Assisting with IP-related internal investigations

  • Defining standards and partnering with other business functions to implement physical, technical, and procedural safeguards for protecting Company confidential information

  • Working closely with business leaders to provide advice and counsel on IP Compliance issues and to develop IP Compliance risk mitigation strategies, practices, and procedures

  • Working cross-functionally to evaluate and recommend changes and solutions to improve policies, procedures, and internal controls based on risk assessments and root causes analyses

  • Providing legal advice and making recommendations to the Associate General Counsel on IP Compliance best practices and standards

  • Monitoring legal and regulatory changes that impact the company’s business globally



  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, materials science, or related discipline

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school; top 50 law school strongly preferred

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as an attorney at a top law firm and/or as an in-house attorney at a technology company, in the areas of intellectual property, compliance, and/or patent/trade secret litigation

  • Membership in the California bar strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of trade secret and intellectual property law

  • Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts related to the memory, storage, and computing industries

  • Ability to work effectively with management

  • Excellent technical, organizational, and analytical skills

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment

  • Ability to effectively communicate legal and compliance issues verbally and in writing, in a clear and understandable manner

  • Excellent presentation, teaching, and coaching skills

  • Ability to be proactive and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong work ethic and ability to produce high quality work product under deadline pressures

  • Ability to work effectively in a global environment, including sensitivity to cultural differences

  • Ability to travel, including international travel, as needed
