Quality Assurance Technicians are primarily responsible for monitoring adherence to rules and procedures established to ensure product quality.  This is accomplished via routine auditing of personnel and tooling; reviewing or updating manufacturing process instructions; and ad hoc specialized training.  During audits, violations of procedures are flagged and documented for management follow-up.  QA Technicians may also recommend new, or updates to, existing procedures.  They may also help develop and deploy  training intended to correct unique problems affecting product quality.  At the WD Great Oaks facility, QA Techs provide essential training to all new employees during structured orientation sessions.  “New Employee Orientation” (NEO) is conducted in a classroom setting over six days and is intended to provide the basic skills new employees will need to be successful, before they step foot in the process.  Lastly, and perhaps most important, they emphasize to all new employees that that quality comes first.
