Job Description - HVAC Maintenance Technician

We are hiring an HVAC Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance Team. The primary responsibility of the HVAC Maintenance Technician is to install, repair and maintain a variety of equipment including: refrigeration, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, compressors, exhaust fans, economizers, and humidifiers, when required. To do well in this role you should have previous experience in HVAC maintenance, be highly skilled with various hand and power tools, and be able to read blueprints and repair manuals.

 

HVAC Maintenance Technician Responsibilities:

o   Complete corrective and preventative work orders as assigned

o   Operate & Maintain HVAC equipment, including chillers, generators, and associated equipment

o   Inspect HVAC systems and their components for the purpose of the condition, identify necessary repairs and recommend preventative maintenance

o   Calibrate temperature control related sensors, receivers and transmitters

o   Monitor, troubleshoot and maintain control systems, including pneumatic, DDS/hybrid systems

o   Effectively  monitor and adjust interior environments via a Building Automation System

o   Repair and maintain other mechanical and physical plant systems, including motors, pumps, valves, compressors etc.

o   Maintain relevant logs and documentation

o   Monitor the performance of HVAC subcontractors, including conformance to code

o   Provide excellent customer service

o   Operate and maintain BMS system

o   Respond to emergency situations during and after hours

o   Other similar responsibilities

HVAC Maintenance Technician requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to work on unlimited ton/horsepower units. Position requires ability to work on call as well as possible weekends as needed.

 

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and four years of related experience.

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and emails. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees in the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions, Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Certifications, Licenses, registrations:

A HVAC License (Journeyman Level) and a valid state driver’s license.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. 

The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and or move to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Appropriate equipment will be provided for lifting over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to the risk of electric shock. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually to moderate to loud.
