Essential Functions

  • Works with Senior Tax Accountants, Associate Tax Managers, and Tax Managers to gather and analyze information, and draft responses to IRS, state and local tax authorities’ Information Document Requests

  • Coordinates tax examinations with the IRS, state and local tax authorities

  • Maintains relationship with state and local exam teams

  • Drafts protests to Notices of Proposed Adjustments and IRS 30-Day Letters

  • Assists with the IRS Appeals process

  • Assists with tax litigation process

  • Assists with global tax controversies

  • Assists with the annual documentation and substantiation of research tax credit

  • Conducts research in connection with the above responsibilities

  • Assists with review, analysis, research and resolution of domestic, international, state and local tax issues

  • Ensures the tax department is in compliance with the requirements of Section 404 of Sarbanes Oxley

  • Maintains visibility of the Tax Department within the organization

  • Other duties may be assigned.


  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. tax laws regulations, rulings, procedures, major court decisions, etc. required

  • Specialized knowledge of U.S./international tax principles

  • General knowledge of state and local tax principles

  • General knowledge of WD business operations

  • Specific knowledge of WD reporting and internal control environment

  • Computer, Software, Tools, Equipment, and Machinery Skills:

    • Uses MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word, email, intranet, internet browsers, Oracle, PC, keyboard, mouse, phone, fax and copier

  • Apply advanced English language skills to:

    • Read, analyze, and interpret financial and legal documents

    • Write complex business correspondence using excellent grammar, correct punctuation and spelling, cohesive structure, concise wording and appropriate tone

  • Speak effectively one-on-one. Effectively present information to top management and/or boards of directors

  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages

  • Apply concepts of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, algebra

  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference

  • Manage large amounts of financial data

  • Deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases

  • Deal with a wide variety of abstract and concrete variables

  • Effectively manage staff while observing employment laws, company policies and guidelines

  • Communicate confidently and clearly with senior management

  • Present credible image

  • Conduct business and perform responsibilities in ethical manner

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal personnel and/or external contacts

  • Respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints from employees, senior management, governmental or regulatory agencies, and auditors

  • Facilitate meetings and present to large groups

  • Maintain strict confidentiality as required by law/regulation/company policy on financial performance/data


Education, Certifications, and/or Licenses and Experience (Minimum Requirements)

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Accounting or Finance preferred)CPA license and/or member of State Bar preferred 
  • 8–12 years of relevant tax experience with a “Big 4” CPA firm or large law firm desired.  In-house corporate experience preferred.
  • Solid background in U.S. corporate income tax (domestic and international issues). Experience in state and local tax preferred.
